how we build the product

Christopher Cummings pointed me towards a really cool post on the BBC radio labs blog entitled 'How we build websites.'

It reminded me of the complexities of product development within large organisations and alerted me to the fact that the process in smaller organisations or start-ups is (and should be exploited as being) much simpler.

Below is something new for me and the blog, a diagram that tells the story of a formula I now recognise as a successful way to approach developing websites.

I believe that understanding processes in this way will help to clarify the role the pm or pd has in smaller organisations or start-ups and how the pm or pd should interface with engineering and design.

Hopefully, it is a useful synopsis? As always, please let me know what you think and if you think I've missed bits? Also, if anyone would like to share any insight to how to enhance the process I have drawn, I would love to hear it!

(P.S: Plus, if you think I should just stick to text, say so...I don't offend easily :) )

Excellent!

Not only does your diagram do a great job explaining a very complex topic it does it with style! I vote for keeping it up.

Thanks,

Josh

Thanks Josh, you are kind! Had a few issues sizing the diagram image, it may be better clickable (to enlarge.) Glad you like it!

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for the comment! (much appreciated!) Glad you like it. The workflow is basically 10 years of trying to get it right. The diagram itself, I drew. Hopefully it's easy to read and follow :-)

Best wishes,

Carl
