the best social networks for product managers...

The latest addition of networks to lovemoney.com is simple, compelling and useful.

  • It's simple because networking on the internet is, by definition, simple.
  • It's compelling because of the evident and proven fact that most of us  have a human urge to, well, connect.
  • It's useful because by building a network here, and being privy to the activity of people in your network, you can't help but absorb information and knowledge about the subject of money.

lovemoney.com networks have made me reflect on my own professional networks. There is surely no denying that professional networks are becoming more and more important. So, which ones are the best for product managers? Here’s a few that I use: (be interesting to get a list going of more, so please leave me your suggestions if you have them...)

Linkedin: to me is useful as a roller deck for business contacts with the added bonus of being a potential source of employment opportunities and referrals. There's also the Linkedin Groups

Twitter: Twitter skirts on the edge of usefulness for me. I don’t buy the scramble for followers, sorry. Not on the personal level anyway. Where I think it is useful is through connecting organically with individuals or organisations that work in the same or a related professional area. #prodmgmt is great.

Facebook: Not really a professional networking tool by definition, but simply through the volume of applications on there and the groups and networks that are available to join there, it will have something for you should you care to look. Though, I have to say, it’s the one I use least.

Blog networks: being a part of a blogging network (call me old fashioned) ticks a lot of boxes. Micro-blogging is terrific, but a tweet is pretty transient, really. The advantage of a blog is obviously its scale, offering more information and context in one place than is easy to do on the social networking sites I’ve covered above.

There you have it, my main networks. Let me know if there are ones I’ve missed that you think should be on my list...
