What Makes a good Blog Post?

I have an ulterior motive here which will become apparent later this week. In the meantime I want to think about what makes a good post.

In my own novice opinion  I've noticed you should:

  • Have a title with something worthy in it. Anything that mentions BBC or Steve Jobs (for example) tends to get picked up I have found.
  • Keep it fairly short. Longer-posts dodn't necessarily work better.
  • Keep to the point - maybe try and make one point rather than lots in one go.
  • Get it out there. Tag it using delicious and other social bookmarking sites.
  • Update your blog regularly - traffic will go flat if you don't.
That's probably my key observations. In terms of traffic my blog has really only been going since May and the traffic levels are modest but encouraging :-)

Here are some relevant articles on writing good posts:

Oh, by the way - there has been an update to the version of blog I am using and I have lost the spell-check facility (sorry for any typos!)
