Testing UI

We are investigating best practice for iteratively rolling-out and testing UI updates.

A couple of good semi-recent examples of different approaches to this I have noticed are:

The BBC Home Page - I don't have a grab, but they offered the current page as an option, or Beta, from the home page. They obviously decided it worked, they rolled it out.

Probably more intriguing is how Google played around with placement to other Google products from its search home page. They are currently top left but do you remember the days when they were directly above the search box?

We have to assume, these links positioned top left, do work.

It's annoying at the moment I can't write about the changes, but they will be out soon and then I'll review here.
